Gold Nugget
Verse 26: “For
she has cast down many wounded, and all who were slain by her were strong men.”
Commentary
I will openly reveal
that I have a cup in the top of my closet that I throw change in. No bills - just change. I won’t lose any sleep over the fact that someone may know about
this little treasure. It isn’t a jug, but more like a mug. I haven’t been
keeping it there very long, so it isn’t even full. Of all the things that
someone who broke into my house would be interested in, the little mug is the
least of my concern. There are a few things, however, that I would be concerned about
losing of greater value. Most of all would be the safety of my family. It is
true; we secure things according to their value. I don’t want anyone to steal
them, but I don’t lock up my trash cans. I will leave them unsecured by the
street all night long. Again, we secure things according to their value. We
figure that the thief is more interested in the things that are of greater value.
Consider the fact that the enemy want to
steal you away from God. The bible says that the enemy comes to “kill, steal
and destroy” (John 10:10) He wants to lure you away from the path God has you
on. Today’s “gold nugget” speaks of the woman that the enemy used to lure this
young man way and onto his death. “For she has cast down many
wounded, and all who were slain by her were strong men.”
One of the worst things we can do is have an
attitude of not believing we are being sought after for destruction. “The devil
is a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) The second worst
thing is not being aware of his tactics. Man or woman, he has a tactic that he
is working to try and take us down. We needn’t fear, but we shouldn’t leave
ourselves open either. Notice that this scripture mentions that it wasn't just the
skinny, scrawny, weak-minded person that fell to the enemy. Even the strong
were trapped in the enemy’s snare. We need to be watchful today as we carry on our
way. We need to secure ourselves just as
sure as we lock our cars and homes. We need to be focused on God, focused on
the Word, focused in prayer and busy with the tasks that we have before us; else we may be easily lured away. We don't want to be an easy target.
Prayer
Lord, help me today to be focused in the right
direction and not easily distracted. I want to focus on the truths in your Word
and the goals that you have set before me. I want to please you with my walk
and not allow the enemy to lure me away. Amen
